What is Guru-app?[]

Guru-app is an education project with a mission to supplement the education curriculum of major developing countries, starting with Malaysia as a test.

We aim to distribute a mix of free crowd-sourced and teacher-owned content to 100 million kids.

Our strategy would be reliant on 3 pillars- crowd-sourcing, mobile distribution and socialisation/gamification.

Alignment with national syllabus[]

Our philosophy is to minimise inconsistencies with national education blueprints and framework.

Guru-app's aim is to supplement instead of circumventing national education blueprints.

Our approach[]

Why crowdsource?[]

Leveraging  the community of current and retired teachers, qualified professionals and students, crowdsourcing is the most efficient way to generate royalty-free content quickly.

By using open-sourced content from active communities with localised expertise, combined with sources such as Youtube , Khan Academy , Coursera , students would have access to latest reference materials to supplement learning experiences.

Quality control will be through public reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, relevance and effectiveness.

Why mass distribution?[]

Internet penetration will increase, especially with mobile penetration of most developing countries exceeding 100%.

By ensuring content is royalty-free, Guru-wiki allows educators and entrepreneurs to focus on building mass distribution platforms which are effective and efficient at affordable costs.

Why gamification ?[]

Gamification  is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in a non-game context in order to engage users and solve problems. Gamification is used in applications and processes to improve user engagementReturn on Investmentdata qualitytimeliness, and learning.

By introducing elements of gamification, students and content contributors are encouraged to increase engagment and drive the growth of usable content.
